MindF**k

Set in South Africa, MindF**k is a powerful, disturbing, and at times frightening story. Chris Burns, and his friends - Kerbs and Sky Eyes - take to the road, heading for the MindFuck rock festival. Along the way they pick up the gorgeous Partygirl. Burns and Partygirl connect immediately. But on the first night, while the rock music blasts from the stage, something unexpected happens - his world gets turned on its head as one of the boys emerges from the tent with blood on his hands. And nothing will ever be the same again …
MindF**k is a real page-turner. The gripping, character-focused, first-person narrative delves right to the heart of a life on-the-edge and virtually out of control. Gritty, hard-hitting, and often shocking, it is packed with drama, emotion, suspense and intrigue from one page to the next. And there is a serious sting in the tail.

BreinBliksem

[MindF**k]

Chris Burns helps his friend, Kerbs, to break into his mother’s car. They steal her radio and mobile phone with the intention of reselling it to pay for their trip to the weekend long BreinBliksem rock festival.  A few days before the concert Sky Eyes, another one of their friends, has an epileptic fit in a local nightclub.

Burns, however, knows that it was more than a fit; he can see it in Sky’s terrified eyes. And it is true – Sky had a terrifying vision of blood and he forewarns his friends to stay away from the BreinBliksem festival.

Despite Sky’s warning the three guys take to the road. Along the way they pick up Partygirl, who is also on her way to the festival. Partygirl with the black T-shirt, cherry red lips, blue-blue eyes and a skin like vanilla yogurt. There is an immediate connection between Burns and Partygirl. Later that evening, alone in their tent, they strip the clothes off one another while the rock music blasts from the stage, echoing in the distance.

But then something unexpected happens, betraying the trust Burns has in his friends. His world gets turned on its head that night as one of the boys emerges from the tent with blood on his hands. And nothing would ever be the same again.

BreinBliksem is a hard-hitting novel that caused a stir in the Afrikaans youth literature market. The magazine Insig (Insight) described it as “Trainspotting in Bloemfontein”. It won both the Sanlam prize for youth literature (Gold) 2005 and the M.E.R. prize for youth literature 2006. Judges for the competitions called the novel a tour de force.

Miserella

Miserella flies in her sleep. But that is the least of her problems. She and her brother, Juvenis, live in a gothic castle with their wretched aunts, Violenta and Laniolet. And, of course, Mortallus, who has passed away. Or rather, he isn’t really dead, so they keep his ashes in an urn while he is trying to revive himself.

Topping it all off is the mysterious Animal lurking in the dark. They all know he is there, but nobody has seen him … yet …
Miserella’s life is – well, totally miserable. There is only one thing left for her to do: she occasionally starts slipping out of the castle in search of a new life in a strange city; a life that she desperately tries to hide from the others. She falls in love with Carlo, the boy with the sad look in his eyes.

Things are changing in the castle as well: Juvenis finds a mysterious key that unlocks a water filled room with a dark hidden secret. Tutella, the castle ghost, informs Miserella that there is another ghost in the castle, and it is not Mortallus!

Will the evil Mortallus finally rise from the ashes?

Will all the hidden secrets of the castle and its residents be revealed?

Will Miserella find the love she is yearning for?
